Chile 2010: What are your views on Chile's bicentennial year?

This year had been important for our country and for all people that live here, because we celebrate two hundred years of independence, after Spanish colonization. There are many activities to celebrate this year; you can listen to live music in many part of the city, there are many shows, theatre, art, etc. I think the government have spent a lot of money, and I am not agree, because they could help poor people or in social risk.

I think money could be spent doing different things, like help people that suffer with the earthquake and tsunami to build their houses, or help poor people, build hospitals and give a better education for our children. They put much emphasis in celebrating, but they don’t measure the consequences. If government organizes many parties an activities, people spend money, and in most cases, they don’t have money and they ask for credits in a bank, credits they could not pay, because they hay to feed and dress a family, they have to give education for their children, etc. This things government doesn’t see, in this year they are blind about economic problems of people, and they incentives to spend money.

On the other hand, most of the activities are shows that organize by people with no Chilean nationality, and I think that this should not happen. If we are celebrating our bicentenary, the most logical thing is to show Chilean products and efforts. For example, the lights show projected in La Moneda, French people organized that, with their technology, because in Chile it is impossible. So we fell down into underdeveloped country concept, and we project that to the whole world, and this is not good for the country. We must believe in Chile, we can do awesome things, and we don’t need foreign people to do that.

In conclusion, we have to know how to spend our and Chilean money, because if we don’t do that, we can suffer very much and not only us, our family too. So I prefer doing shows and activities with less money, to incentivize a cheaper celebration. And we must begin to value what we have in Chile, because here we have many intelligent people who can do a lot of amazing things.

I am not GREEN!!!

First, i want to say that my commitment with the enviroment is not too much. I respect the enviromental standards like leave thash in dumps and don’t drop it in the street. I think that my best effort is to separate de common trash, like food waste, to the thash coming of papper products, in my house, but i dont carry them to a recycling site, my mom does.
I think that the best place to learn about different practices relationed with the enviroment is Internet, because you can find everything, there are many sites to reed, for example green peace. In these sites, they teach you a lot of practices, like recycling and even they teach you how to build your house with recycled material.
I have to say that i dont know how to use a bike, i have tried, but is imposible, i always finish in the same situation… i fell down and it hurts me, or i crash with parking cars!! Is embarrasing. So i prefer to use the car, the bus and in last cases i walk.
Well, as you would have understand, i dont join any eco-organization, because i dont have time and i prefer to do other things, or help other institution.
I think that in Santiago the government have to implement new politics relationed with the enviroment, because we are breathing a bad air, and this makes us to get ill. No matter the seasson of the year, the disease is always there, in cold and hot days. The air that we breath contains many toxic chemical elements, and it cant happend. Santiago is a city rounded bi hills, so the air cant flow away. I think that government have to reduce cars in the street, and fix buses, because their smoke is black!!!!!

Archaeological News

This new talks about the oldest archaeological discovery made in Great Britain, at Norfolk beach. The site’s name is Happisburg. In this place, a group of archaeologist found different stone tools, like knifes and piercing tools. These tools are very fresh, they are very sharp, and so this would suggest that they are not too far for the original site of deposit.
This discovery, open the idea that early humans were in Great Britain between 840.000 and 950.000 years ago, that is 250.000 older than they believe before.
Maybe these artifacts were leaved by hunter-gatherers and they should border the Thames River, which is dry in our era. These stones should be washed away by the river curse, and finally deposited at Happisburg. The rivers were probably used like travel routes, because most part of the landscape were covered by vegetation, and that limits the free pass.
The early Britons would have live in similar climatic conditions to those of today, maybe the winter is cooler, and they live at the same time as “megafauna” did.
This discovery overturns the idea that early humans don’t life in cool systems, and they prefer a hospitable climate in the Mediterraneo, because before this discovery, was in this zone where the oldest archaeological record was discovered, dated between 1,1 and 1,2 millions years ago.
Maybe the first humans in Great Britain came here crossing a natural land bridge, which connect the actual country with continental Europe. They should have come in a interglacial period, with nice climatic conditions, because after that temperatures dropped too much, and they can’t live there. All of these is because they lived out in the open, but we don´t know if they had clothes, primitive buildings or even if they used the fire.
This is an amazing discovery, so we can’t leave the investigation here, we need to know how our antecessors were, and whet the earth was populated.

What to do in Santiago?

A foreigner tourist should visit a lot of places in Santiago, because here are many beautiful places and a lot of fun activities. Here I expose a short list which can gives you an idea of what to do in Santiago.
1.- San Cristobal Hill: This is a hill that is in the middle of the city, in this place you can go to the zoo and see a lot of animals, you can feed them with some peanut, but you have to do it hide, because it is illegal jejeje. Another thing you can do is to take the Telesférico and see all Santiago. At the top of the hill there are a white virgin, a very big one.
2.- La Moneda Palace: You must visit it just because it is the government house and it has pretty gardens and a great history.
3.- Plaza Brazil: This is a place where are a lot of bars, where you can have a drink and listen good music. I like this place because you can go party all night long.
4.- Santa Lucia Hill: This is another hill in the middle of the city, but is smaller than San Cristobal. In this place you can visit Hidalgo Castle that is an old construction, with elegant rooms and decorations.
5.- Lastarria: This is a neighborhood in downtown where are a lot of places to have a coffee. These places are beautiful and quiet, so you can read a book and have a relaxing time.

My Favorite TV Show

My favorite tv show is “La Familia de al Lado”, this is a soap opera that is transmitted by TVN at 8 o’clock in the afternoon.
I like this show because there is a conflict between two neighbor families, all the things they do are secret for the other people, there is so much mystery that I can’t stop watching it.
So all days I stop doing everything at these time and I lie on my bed with something to eat to have an hour to relax, after a stressful day.
My favorite character is Javier, because he is a very bad person, bad like movies, very bad, and he acts very good, he can interpret the character very well, he is a great actor. Also he is very good looking, and I love him, he is like a platonic love.
Another character I like is Carola, because she is a misunderstood woman, her parents don’t love her because she lies very much, she drinks a lot of alcohol and is a drug addict. Her character is so interesting, because she is always doing things to go on with her life, she tries to forget bad moments and go out with their friends.

A country i want to visit

A country i want to visit is the Dominican Republic. I choose that country because i like the sun and the beach, i want to visit a place where i can dress with skirts and shorts all the time, without wearing winter clothes. I like to party, so i want it on a beach, dinking beer and having fun.

On the other hand, i like crafts, specially rings, and there are many people who make this, so i would like to buy them all!!!

Also, i like exotic animals, and this is a caribean place, son i can see them and know more about their lives. I like monkeys because you can play with them, but they are agressive in many times, so i would be satisfied with also watching their activities and see the way they develop in their enviroment.

Other thing i like from this place is the vegetation, i like palm trees, because these are so large, and cast a sweet shadow under the sun, so i can rest all the day in the beach.

I think this place will give me a great moment of relax, i really need that because i am stressed by the university.
